The Prestige Cat Trees Maine Coon Cat Tower is the absolute best Maine Coon cat tree in my opinion.

Best Overall

  • Will not budge or tip over, even with multiple Maine Coons

  • Great value

It perfectly addresses all the factors I faced in choosing a cat tree for my furry friend: size and sturdiness, materials and construction, diversity and interest, measurements, design, and cost.

My search began when awhile back, my Maine Coon really freaked herself out when the no-name dinky cat tree in my living room toppled over after she leaped on to it.

From then, I knew I had to find the best cat tree for her, otherwise she could be hurt or worse, develop anxiety over heights, which can snowball into other behavioral issues.

Best Overall Cat Tree for Maine Coons

Prestige Cat Trees Maine Coon Cat House
9.25
  • High-quality materials that will last for years – real wood and plush 40 oz carpet
  • Will not budge or tip over, even with multiple Maine Coons on it
  • Safe and comfortable for your Maine Coon
  • Substantial size and lots of room to play
  • Great value

The Prestige Cat Trees Maine Coon Cat House is the Prestige Cat Tree company’s response to a loyal customer base who asked about something particularly for Maine Coons and similar sized breeds.

Prestige Cat Trees is an American company producing traditional style well-made cat trees here in the USA, which are loved by lots of cat owners.

This Maine Coon Cat Tower model promises to be a functional and beautiful piece of cat furniture, and of the highest quality in this product category.

During testing, I found the Maine Coon Cat Tower to one of the most substantial, well-crafted, and deluxe cat trees on the market. It comes with a higher price and more space requirement vs other cat trees.

Maine Coon Sized and Strong

True to its name, the Prestige Cat House truly is Maine Coon sized, with perches wide enough to fit 20 pound cats and platforms that allow for comfortable sitting without any precarious dangling of limbs.

This cat tree for Maine Coons features a ground floor condo that will fit your buddy, so no more wasted real estate!

In my experience, it’s never safe for your Maine Coon to be the heaviest or biggest object on a cat tree. So I love that the base of this huge cat tree is a chunky 2 feet x 2 feet, with little fear of it tipping over.

This base measurement is more than your average tree by a few inches, at least!

Measurements

While the base footprint is small at just 2 feet x 2 feet, it’s pretty tall at 65 inches, and at its widest point in the air, about 36 inches across. Maine Coon sized indeed, so confirm you have the room in your space.

For those who do not have the width, I recommend the skinnier but equally awesome Prestige Cat Trees Staggered Cat Tower or New Cat Condos Large Cat Tower.

Fantastic Solid Wood and Real Carpet Construction

My comparisons found that materials used on this cat tree are superior to the majority of other cat trees on the market. Prestige Cat Tree utilized real wood, plush 40 oz household grade carpet, in contrast to pressed cardboard and thin cardboard.

Because of that, this cat tree feels like a real, substantial piece of furniture to put in your home that will last. It’s constructed in the USA, and uses oversized, secure hardware to hold the heavy pieces together.

Ultimately, the result is no movement from platform and perches even when multiple big cats are on it, sleeping or playing.

Entertainment Options Keep It Interesting

The tightly wrapped sisal rope on this model is un-oiled, increasing its longevity from Fluffy’s claws.

Other cat trees may use seagrass, or loosely wrapped and oiled sisal rope, these are lesser quality and won’t stand up to the onslaught of Maine Coon’s plus sized paws.

My Maine Coon has a definite preference when it comes to types of material to scratch. At the top is nice carpet, then sisal rope, and at the bottom is cardboard.

So, I’m happy to report the Prestige Cat House contains her most desired materials for scratching: sisal!

Frustration Free Assembly

If there are no quality control issues with included parts, you should be able to put it together in a few minutes – it’s just a few pieces to screw together with all included heavy duty hardware.

I really appreciated the chunky steel hardware provided vs the stuff from other cat trees.

Design

The color is super neutral, a gray beige taupe combo, and matches most rooms or decors.

The style is traditional, but speaks of quality. I think even a modern style home can house this fine – it’s so tasteful. But style is subjective, I realize.

Price

If you’re used to pet store or sub-$100 cat trees, the build quality, sturdiness, value of this piece will surprise you. Thick posts, hefty hardware, real carpet, and formidable weight all speak to a real piece of furniture.

For most Maine Coon owners, this is simply one of the best value propositions around.

Summary

Overall, the impression is that this cat tree for Maine Coons looks and feels premium and its something you can happily display in your home.

In my opinion, the Prestige Maine Coon Cat House is a definite buy if you have room and are willing to spend,

Smaller, generic cat trees from cardboard and thin carpet just do not match a Maine Coon, from a size and safety point of view.

Runner Up Cat Trees for Maine Coons

Armarkat B5701 57-Inch Cat Tree, Ivory
8.75
  • Real wood
  • Made in America
  • Variety of platforms, scratchers, condos
  • Replacement parts available
  • Great value
Armarkat 74 Inch Cat Tree
9
  • Plywood, Faux Fur, Sisal Construction
  • Suitable for medium and large cats, hold up to 60 lbs.
  • 24" L x 28" W x 74" H

My runner up pick are these unassuming Armakat models. They offer many of the same benefits of the Prestige cat tree above at a lower price. And in some cases, they actually beat the Prestige when rated according to our criteria.

Size and Stability

The Armakat is for sure Maine Coon sized. The 57 inch would fit one Maine Coon, while the 74 inch are for multiple cat families…or one extremely spoiled only child Maine Coon.

The base of the B5701 57 inch model, at 20 x 24 inches is smaller vs the Prestige, and I wish it was an inch or two more to better fight swaying. It’s already much better vs comparable trees in the price range, though.

However, the 74 inch A7401 model rocks a super wide base at 24 x 28 inches! This means very minimal wobbliness and rock solid stability.

Build Quality

While not solid wood and thick carpet, these trees are either respectable plywood (74 inch) or compressed cardboard (57 inch) construction with faux suede and fur.

And here’s the mark of a good manufacturer – you can contact Armakat for replacement parts, right here in America!

More Toys

The Armarkat models have more platforms, stairs, condos, and scratching posts to play with than the Prestige. Every single post on the Armarkats are tightly wrapped in sisal.

Versus other similarly priced cat trees in the market with just as many activities, Armakat’s build quality stands out.

Budget

This is where the Armakat shines!

Both models are less expensive than the Prestige, and probably one of the best values for money, delivering stability, size, variety, and pleasing design. Not to mention the availability of replacement parts.

However, keep in mind, they are still more than most typical cat trees, due to their size and quality.

They are both elegant and modern extra large cat trees for Maine Coons. And like the Prestige, from a long time trusted brand you can contact for parts.

Space Saving Lounge Cat Tree for Maine Coons

FEANDREA Large Cat Tree
8.5
  • Particle Board, Plush Fabric, Sisal Construction
  • Climb, Scratch, Relax, All in One
  • 23.6"L x 15.7"W x 33.1"H

This cat tree with a super plush lounge/extra large perch at the top is a wonderful alternative to first two picks, which required a lot of space. That’s why I’ve dubbed this the best lounge cat tree for Maine Coons.

Who Needs This?

For those who need a cat tree for their Maine Coon, but don’t have the room for sprawling items like the others here should look into the FEANDREA Large Cat Tree with 2 Condos.

Unlike the Prestige or Armakat, this model only rises to mid height, 35 inches. It is very budget friendly, though does not sacrifice safety and stability for your hefty furry friend.

The base is 23.6 x 15.7 inches and does not go beyond that, so this can fit in any room.

Solid at Mid Height

By not being as tall, the FEANDREA Large Cat Tree spend its efforts on staying sturdy at its height.

The base is reinforced to keep it steady even on soft surfaces. You can even anchor it to the wall via an attachment. Sisal-covered posts that hold up the platform are extra thick compared to heavy duty cat trees in its price category.

And that lounger at the top is the softest of all perches on all models on my list, and very well supported by the fat posts.

Scratching Post and Lounger

As with the Prestige, there is covered sisal rope for scratching and a generous Maine Coon sized perch at the top. On the sides are kitty condos with ample room.

Average Materials and Looks

The materials on the FEANDREA model is middle of the road. They do a good design job with the extra thick pillars, stabilizing base, and smart design that supports the top platform, yes. The look is pretty traditional.

But at end of the day, it still paper tubing and particle board. Now, we can appreciate the solid wood and plywood with of my top two picks!

Price and Value

This thing is not exactly cheap just judging by the materials, but you’re really paying for everything else – the smart sturdy design, solid, balanced build, safety, and easy assembly.

Purchasers rave about how high quality the FEANDREA is, they love the height for their large cats, and also have no hesitations about recommending it to others.

Best Modern Cat Tree for Maine Coons

Vesper Cat Tree, High Base, Oak, 52063, 56 x 56 x 81.5 cm (22 x 22 x 32 in)
8
  • German design
  • No carpet
  • Numerous tall sisal wrapped posts
  • Medium Density Fiberboard construction
  • Replacement parts from manufacturer

Vesper Cat Furniture V-High Base Cat Tree

The Vesper High Base oozes quality and function in a slick package. Amongst modern cat trees, this is one of the most popular.

Why This is Unique

The Prestige is quite a traditional design, so design junkies who want contemporary lines and a German aesthetic in a modern cat tree should look into the Vesper Cat Furniture V-High Base Cat Tree.

This product looks like a proper piece of contemporary furniture at home in even the most stylish spaces.

Materials and Construction

Material used is Medium Density Fiberboard, which is denser than plywood, and a slight step down from solid wood. But better vs particle board.

Unlike the other trees, the Vesper’s platforms are not covered in carpet or soft fabric, but plush memory foam cushions stuck on various spots, which you can remove for washing.

That feature means this model is a good Maine Coon cat tree for allergy sufferers, as you can easily wipe down the solid surfaces for dander,

Size and Stability

People report the Vesper V-High Base Cat Tree to be stable and sturdy on top, and the large 22 x 22 inch base supports that for sure.

Owners say their large or regular sized cats fit wonderfully in all condos and on platforms.

In Your Space

The overall size is perfect for a normal sized room. At 47.8 inches high, this is taller than the FEANDREA (35 inches) but not as tall as the 54 inch Armarkat. The Vesper is a happy medium in height and footprint.

Overall

The materials are better than the usual paper tubing and particle board, except for the sometimes loosely wrapped seagrass for scratching posts (why aren’t they using the standard sisal?).

Variety-wise, the Vesper is a little bare as well with just platforms, a condo, and scratching posts. But that’s a feature, not a bug, of the minimalist style and I can kind of forgive it.

But to be real, design and aesthetic is the primary selling point. This cat tree for your Maine Coon just looks so sweet, and there’s few on the market that beat it through that lens.

Prestige Cat Trees Cat Towe

  • 24" L x 24" W x 65" H

Seriously, look at the Prestige Cat Trees Staggered Cat Tower. Imagine a cat tower for your Maine Coon and tell me in your mind’s eye that it doesn’t look like this!

A Tower For Maine Coons

In my head, I’m kind of seeing a big Maine Coon on top of a castle spire. This cat tower definitely has that vibe with top perch at 70 inches high, taller than the Prestige Maine Coon Cat Tree and most standard cat trees.

This thing is also big and heavy, so I feel sorry for the delivery person who has to get the box to you! The good part though – assembly is simple with no tools needed.

Prestige Cat Tree Construction

Don’t forget – this Staggered model is from Prestige Cat Tree, like our top pick, and rocks the same materials. The real, substantive wood and thick, 40oz human grade carpet construction look and feel quality.

A 22 x 22 inch base for stability, with chunky posts keep everything solid. “Heavy-duty” and “well-built” are common sentiments from purchasers. Typical cat trees with particle board and thin fur coverings just do not compare.

One drawback is that the carpet may shed. Keep a mini vacuum ready. Some owners are so happy with the materials, though, that they plan to recarpet it in few years time.

Keeping Cats Interested

Lots of keep cats occupied here! Between the abundant carpet, unoiled sisal scratching posts, and 5 levels of chunky platforms and beds, your Maine Coon will surely love their new hangout area.

Design

Personally I love how tasteful the tree looks. It’s tasteful, neutral colored, and will fit into any type of room decor. You’d better like the design, because this is one piece you’ll have for a long time!

Price

Like our top pick, this is a piece of furniture made from real wood, and not a 3-6 month disposable object, and the price reflects that.

It’s Maine Coon (or any large cat) sized with hefty hardware that speaks to quality. All of that comes with a price that is on par with our top pick. But consider all your getting for it!

Also Great!

New Cat Condos Large Cat Tower
8.5
  • Wood, Carpet, Sisal Construction
  • Handcrafted in the USA
  • 24" L x 20" W x 65"H

Another tower style cat tree for large breeds that has to be mentioned is the New Cat Condos Large Cat Tower. The look of this piece of cat furniture is adorable, with its 4 ascending perches in a circular pattern.

Can you imagine having your multiple cat family nested in each one of those 5 x 17 inch buckets?

Each bucket contains 227 inches of room. This is comparable to even the area of the top platform on the FEANDREA, our top lounge cat tree (352 inches).

Anyway, having cats in each bucket would be amazing, and the best part is that it totally could happen. A cat tree reflects the social hierarchy of a group of cats, with the alpha cat likely on the top perch.

Construction

The New Cat Condos Large Cat Tower is another quality piece utilizing real wood and metal connecting parts, with thick carpet all over. No paper tubes here. Well made and worth the money are common points said by owners!

Some users had complaints which were generally about small details like carpets shedding, bald spots, or loose threads.

Decor

The design is traditional and tasteful with neutral colors that match any room in a home. It’s also quite dense – big but compact at the same time with a lot going in at each level, very nice to look at in general.

Assembly also takes just a few minutes and can be done with one person. Seriously.

Stability

The 24 x 20 inch base will fit into corners very nicely.

So while the whole tree is sturdy even with multiple cats on it (the design just begs that), that space saving base can use a little help, especially if you have big boi or girls on the top bucket.

So consider placing this on a hard surface, with a weight, or against a corner.

Interesting Brand

New Cat Condos as a brand really reminds me of another fave brand of mine – Prestige Cat Trees. I have a hunch it’s the same manufacturer with different branding or some shared history, but can’t say for certain!

Amazing Value in a Large Cat Tree

FEANDREA Multi-Level Cat Tree
8.75
  • Particle Board, Plush Fabric, Sisal Construction
  • Friendly to Young and Old
  • 23.6” L x 19.3” W x 75.2” H

Most of the jumbo cat trees (or jumbo capacity) I’ve recommended so far are made in America or Europe. Why? I just feel better talking about a made in the USA cat tree or European brands.

But they do come with a premium price.

For those of you Maine Coon or other big cat owners not looking to spend over $150 on a huge cat tree, the FEANDREA 56.3-Inch Multi-Level Cat Tree is an unbelievable deal.

Good Bones

Essentially the bigger sister of our best Lounger listed above, this FEANDREA 56.3 inch cat tree shares the great value and smart design of its sibling.

So Much Variety

Dollar for dollar, this Maine Coon sized cat tree has the widest selection of recreation activities and resting areas on our list.

A rope, a hammock, nicely lined comfortable perches on multiple levels, a condo for hiding away, and sisal wrapped scratching post for days. All create the ultimate gym and playground sets for any cat (at any price).

Safety and Stability

This heavy duty cat tree savior of your curtains, carpet, and couch is not only versatile, but safe, too.

The base is reinforced, posts are extra thick at 2.7″ diameter, and there’s even fasteners you can attach to your wall to prevent toppling.

One small thing – I wish the base was larger than the 21.7 x 17.7 inches, and closer to the 24 x 24 bases of the Prestige and Armarkat models. The stability features help, and it’s awesome to attach the tree to a wall, but a larger base would be appreciated.

Look and Feel

The FEANDREA 53.6 is not subtle. It’s got everything, all the time in full view. Other than that, it’s pretty standard looking. The materials are average, with particle board and hard paper tubing. How do you think we are saving money?

How to Choose the Best Cat Tree for Maine Coons

Photo via Catza.net

Make sure to look for the below points while browsing cat trees.

Size and Sturdiness

Remember, Maine Coon males range from 18-25 pounds on average, with females coming in at 12-18 pounds. From tail to nose stretched out they can be up to 4 feet in total length.

The large cat tree you select must be able to handle this weight and mass on its platform and perches. However, it’s not only the top sections of the cat tree to look out for, but the base as well.

The base has to remain sturdy and solid, firmly planted and not wobble with a 15 – 30 pound cat scampering or leaping onto an upper level. You also do not want an exceptionally tall cat tree if you notice the base is lacking.

Materials and Construction

You want solid wood, thick carpet, and chunky hardware that is easy to assemble. In short, it’s just what you’d prefer when buying furniture for yourself. In this case, it’s Maine Coon cat furniture

Flimsy, big cat towers employ thin carpet and pressed cardboard with lightly wrapped scratching posts. Your Maine Coon rip this to shreds, then start destroying your furniture again.

Buy better quality and sleep better at night, knowing your cat is safe.

Scratching Posts and Diversity

Maine Coons love scratching posts at different angles (flat, vertical or sloping), because they love to lie in different positions and still get in a deep stretch while scratching.

There should also be some toys for attacking, like dangling toys and balls. Maine Coons get bored easily due to their intelligence, so we need entertainment options keep things interesting.

Various ramps, platform, and condos are must-haves. These are private hideaways for your Maine Coon and ramps help mobility and access as your cat ages gracefully.

Placement

Look for a Maine Coon cat tree that actually fits in your designated room. Check the measurements of the base (length x width), plus the height, and the “wingspan” at the widest point to ensure you have real estate.

Speaking of the room, ideally it should be hardwood or tile flooring, and not carpet, to prevent tipping over and movement. A corner of a room, near a window is most ideal so Kitty can see the outdoors.

Those who don’t have the square footage for a substantial tower can look into a few mid height condos or smaller-yet-stable pieces of Maine Coon cat furniture.

Design

Find a design you like as well, as you will be living with it too. On the market today you’ll find a large cat tower of any style and aesthetic, from sleek and modern to traditional and tasteful.

Cats or humans with allergies might fare better with a contemporary cat tree without carpet that holds fur and dander. Those living in small spaces may want to check out space saving or floor to ceiling cat trees that met our safety criteria.

Budget

The last thing is budget – don’t be afraid to spend a bit more on safety and quality. Avoid cheap-o, generic cat trees. You paid your Maine Coon’s high price, so you can afford a solid, sturdy large cat tree for her.

If you really are strapped for cash, check out some affordable cat trees, but keep in mind the tradeoffs!

Do Maine Coons Need Cat Trees?

Photo via Catza.net

Yes, Maine Coons need cat trees! As a responsible cat paw-rent, your Maine Coon’s health and happiness should be a top priority. On top of play time with you, nutritious and delicious food, another top way to ensure your cat enjoys their best life is by building or getting them a cat tree!

Like all cats, they have a natural inclination to jump, play, and scratch. Just because your cat is huge does not mean they don’t want to explore and climb. They deserve a huge cat tree!

They also like to be in a high place to chill (hence climbing trees out in nature) and survey their kingdom, i.e. your house. A Maine Coon cat tree is furniture that consolidates all of those needs into one big cat tower. Otherwise they’ll be on tables, jumping on counters, and navigating the tops of shelves.

Those who keep their cats strictly indoors need to have solid Maine Coon cat furniture around to add interest in their lives and maintain some connection to the wild.

It’s About Territory

Just like humans, cats, especially Maine Coons, need a place they can call home that’ll always assure them of their safety.

Cats are highly territorial, which is why they are constantly rubbing their foreheads or scratching with their paws on stuff – it’s to put their mark on it and claim it!

Anyway, with a cat tree, your Maine Coon will genuinely have a space of their own, and this is wonderful for their mental health.

For multi-cat families, a tiered cat tree is essential, so each kitty can occupy its own perch or platform. This diffuses anxiety and issues between the cats, which leads to better behavior from everyone!

To Survey Their Kingdom From Up High

This is an extension of the above – what to do you after you have land? You watch over it of course!

I’m sure you’ve found that sometimes, your Maine Coon makes their way on top of your furniture, looking for the highest point in the room.

Then, when they find the perfect spot, they sit there for hours surveying the space below. They are not interested in view; no, it’s because they are watching over their territory to ensure all is well.

Scouting for Predators

As you already know, cats are natural-born predators, and have a strong evolutionary characteristic to always be on the look out for threats. In the wild days, I imagine Maine Coons climbing trees to achieve this.

A cat tree indoors offers your Maine Coon the high ground and a place of refuge that assures them of their safety, where they can literally watch for predators around (like a vacuum).

Acts as a Scratching Post

The need to scratch is tailored to each breed of cat, with Maine Coons, not being an exception.

Scratching not only trims and sharpens the Maine Coons’ claws but also marks territory since each cat has special scent glands in the paws. These scent glands produce unique scents that are specific to each cat.

Do you value your furniture, carpet, or curtains? Then the scratching post part of a cat tree will be your savior. Don’t skip this.

For Climbing And Exercise

Maine Coons have big muscles, large paws, and thick hind legs – they can climb and some love to do it.

So instead of having them climb your furniture ad curtains, you can get a cat tree that will be able to serve their needs.

Indoor Maine Coons can also very quick become lazy and prefer lying on the couch, which promotes weight gain.

So, a large multi-tier cat tree will provide them with constant exercise that’ll help them horn the skills that keep them in touch with their predatory instincts.

A Place to Catch a Break

If you happen to own several pets, you’ll find that they will bond and form friendships, but just like humans, there can be issues with temperament.

Cats aren’t as sociable all the time, especially if you own other pets, like dogs. Thus, there are times that Maine Coons will need their space and a cat tree provides them with a peaceful high place no one can reach.

Remember This About Maine Coons

You should be proud of sharing a home with a Maine Coon! The Maine Coon is among the world’s most popular natural cat breeds with a rich and storied history.

They are originally from New England, located in the North Eastern US, which is known for their harsh and rugged winters. Growing up in extreme cold conditions like this led to their large size and distinct long-haired coat!

The friendly Maine Coons found work as indoor barn cats for humans, catching vermin and rats that fed on grain and other crops stored away. It was not long before humans noticed the amazing creatures and took them in as pets.

Now they are more at home at cat shows rather than the great outdoors. So treat your Maine Coons like the unique creatures they are with a special Maine Coon cat tree.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Maine Coons destroy furniture?

Even with their reputation as gentle giants, yes, Maine Coons can totally wreck your furnishing and anything else in your home!

Maine Coons will always scratch, so if they don’t have a dedicated area that they can engage in the activity, then they’ll scratch any alternative, like your furniture, as a result. Always have scratch-friendly items items like cat tree, scratching post, and toys.

Remember to clip their nails regularly, too. Cat nails are the most destructive feature in cats, so by trimming them, you are limiting the damage they cause. Remember, if you’ve no idea how to cut a cat’s nails, head to the groomers or veterinarian.

Don’t forget Maine Coon cats require love and attention, this is a given. Regular playtime and socialization simply makes for a happier cat less likely to behave in an antisocial manner.

Do Maine Coons like scratching posts?

Of course, they love scratching posts.

  • Cats are territorial animals, especially if you have other pets in the house. So, to mark their territory, they tend to scratch surfaces around the house.
  • Cats are groomers and apart of that is nail maintenance, so they scratch to keep their claws sharp and shed the outer layer of dead skin.
  • Stretching always feels good, especially if you’ve had an extremely busy day of lying around and napping in the sun.
  • Scratching lets your Maine Coon anchor on to something and get into position for a deep, long stretch of the muscles, tendons, and ligaments.
  • Cats express themselves with their paws and claws (like it or not). Your cat ever knead you AKA “make biscuits?” Or have they ever bat at your hair while you sleep? That’s love, cat style! Strong emotions connect to scratching, which makes it such a natural impulse.

As a cat parent, your options are to set up scratching opportunities or you will quickly find your furniture, carpet, drapes, and more shredded.

Do Maine Coons like to climb trees?

For many Maine Coon cats, climbing is second nature to them, with their strong muscles and big paws. A rumor persists that Maine Coons stay on the ground due to their size. The assumption is that they feel unsteady and uneasy in the branches of a tree. However, the truth is usually quite the opposite. Any parent to a Maine Coon will probably tell you that their pet loves climbing.

Though keep in mind that not all Maine Coons have the same personality and preferences. This statement is especially true for climbing and high-up spaces.
